Mausoleo di Teodorico

A remarkable structure built by the Ostrogoth King Theoderic, featuring unique architecture and historical significance. The Mausoleum of Theodoric, constructed around 520 AD, is a significant funerary monument located in Ravenna, Italy. Built by Theodoric the Great, king of the Ostrogoths, it uniquely blends Eastern influences with Roman architectural traditions. The structure is composed entirely of Aurisina marble blocks, featuring a central plan with two superimposed decagonal orders and a remarkable monolithic dome.

Situated just beyond Ravenna’s historic center, the mausoleum is nestled within a spacious public park, offering visitors a serene environment to appreciate its historical and architectural significance. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing Ravenna’s early Christian monuments. The mausoleum is open to visitors, with operating hours from Monday to Thursday, 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM, and Friday to Sunday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. It is closed on December 25 and January 1. Admission is free on the first Sunday of each month.
