Mark Dreyfus

Mark Dreyfus is an Australian lawyer and politician serving as the Attorney-General of Australia since June 2022 under the Albanese government. He is a senior member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and has been the federal member of parliament for the seat of Isaacs in Victoria since 2007.

Dreyfus was born on October 3, 1956, in Perth, Western Australia. He studied at Melbourne High School and later graduated from the University of Melbourne with degrees in Arts and Law. He went on to practice as a barrister and was appointed Queen’s Counsel (QC) in 1999. Dreyfus built a distinguished career in law, particularly in areas such as commercial litigation, public law, and human rights cases.

Dreyfus entered politics with a focus on public service and legal reforms. He held the position of Attorney-General previously from February 2013 to September 2013 during the Gillard and Rudd governments. During this time, he also served as Minister for Emergency Management and Special Minister of State. His tenure was marked by strong advocacy for human rights, legal reforms, and environmental protections.

As Attorney-General, Dreyfus oversees Australia’s legal and constitutional frameworks and is a key figure in legal policy, national security, and justice matters.
