Marina Beach

Playground, picnic tables & other kid-friendly attractions at a surf-free sheltered beach.n Marina Beach, or “Mother’s Beach” as it is referred to by local residents, is a family- and kid-friendly, man-made beach in Marina del Rey. Developed as a part of Marina del Rey in 1957 and officially dedicated in 1965, this beach provides a safe environment for kids because there is no surf in the swimming area. The area is comprised of almost a half-mile of sandy beach with volleyball courts, picnic areas, barbecues, showers, and restrooms, and is located adjacent to the intersection of Admiralty Way and Via Marina, accessible from Parking Lot 10.

In October 2017, the Department of Beaches and Harbors began construction of the $5.58 million Marina “Mother’s” Beach Improvements Project, which was completed in November 2018 and resulted in a fresh look and feel for the popular facility.  The new restroom building and picnic shelters feature a modern design that is nautical and dynamic.  New picnic tables and barbecue grills invite users to stay a while and enjoy the Marina views.  Decorative concrete and pavers along the promenade encourage users to stay active, and new landscaping and bioswales beautify the facility as well as filter and clean storm water.  A beach access mat provided during project construction will remain on the sand permanently.

This is a great location for family outings, with playground equipment available for young children. Windsurfing and kayaking are popular activities at this beach. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of “Mother’s Beach.”
