Marco Zero, Macapa, State of Amapa, Brazil

Ecuador is famously named for the Equator which traverses the country and even has a themed attraction where tourists can stand on a line drawn at the Earth’s midpoint.

But it seems the designers of the tourist park got their calculations wrong and instead of standing at zero degrees latitude, zero minutes and zero seconds, visitors are actually about 240 metres to the north of the Equator.

The Government-owned Middle of the World park, which welcomes half-a-million tourists a year, with more than half of them foreigners, has admitted that the line is not drawn exactly where they say it is.
