Macquarie Lighthouse, located in the suburb of Vaucluse on Sydney’s South Head, is Australia’s oldest lighthouse. First built in 1818, it was designed by convict architect Francis Greenway and has guided ships into Sydney Harbour for over two centuries. The current structure, completed in 1883, replaced the original sandstone building but retained Greenway’s elegant Georgian design.

The lighthouse stands proudly on the cliffs overlooking the entrance to Sydney Harbour, offering visitors stunning views of the coastline and the Pacific Ocean. While still an active navigation aid, Macquarie Lighthouse is also a popular historic site. Guided tours are occasionally available, allowing visitors to explore the interior and learn about its maritime significance.
