Lofotakvariet Aquarium, Kabelvåg, Nordland, Norway

At the Lofoten Aquarium you can learn about the Lofoten cod, also known as skrei: The east Atlantic cod which every winter migrate from the Barents Sea to Lofoten to spawn. Skrei is the foundation for the Lofoten fishery and has for centuries been one of the most important fishes in Europe. Check out our skrei aquarium, as well as aquariums containing most other species of fish, crustaceans and marine animals found in the waters around Lofoten. Some examples of the species on view can be seen on the page Animals at the Lofoten Aquarium.

You may also enjoy the exhibition “The Art of Co-existence”, with information on fisheries, aquaculture, oil and gas activities in Norway. The Lofoten Aquarium is an information centre for Norwegian aquaculture and there are separate display cages with salmon in the sea, where the fish can be observed up close.
