Lighthouse of La Coubre, La Tremblade, Poitou-Charentes, France
Rebuilt three times since 1895 on account of shifting dunes, the Coubre Lighthouse stands imposingly on Coubre Point, marking the Gironde approaches.
From the top (around 300 steps and a metal ladder!) there is a superb view of the Cordouan Lighthouse, Grave Point and the Côte de Beauté as far as Meschers. Around 10km north of the lighthouse, a wooded hill on the right of the D25 (Gardour metal platform) gives views over the Coubre Forest and the sea.
