Leptis Magna, UNESCO, Khoms, Libya
Leptis Magna, also spelled Lepcis Magna, Punic transliteration Labqior Lpqi, modern Labdah, largest city of the ancient region of Tripolitania. It is located 62 miles (100 km) southeast of Tripoli on the Mediterranean coast of Libya. Lying 2 miles (3 km) east of what is now Al-Khums (Homs), Leptis contains some of the world’s finest remains of Roman architecture. It was designated a UNESCOWorld Heritage site in 1982.
