Lecce is also called “The baroque lady”. The baroque style characterizes spires, portals, churches, monuments and houses of the “centro storico”, the old town centre. Walking through Porta Napoli, built in 1548 in honor of Charles V, you’ll enter in the old town. Here starts the main streets, admire refined buildings visit the church Chiesa di Santa Maria della Provvidenza. In Via Umberto I, you’ll see Adorno Palace and the Basilica of Santa Croce, symbol of the city and of the Baroque art.
