The Restaurant in the Grand French Tradition
An illustrious name. Ten letters that embody the prestige of haute cuisine for decades. A unique destination for gourmet travelers eager to experience something unparalleled. A place where everyone is welcomed with the same care, and where the beauty of the gesture makes the service a ceremony more marvelous than intimidating. An expression of the culinary arts. Housed in the former mansion of the Duke of Morny, Le Taillevent is one of the most beautiful addresses in Paris, echoing an aristocratic past. It spans the ground floor with its two dining rooms and a first floor featuring private salons listed as historical monuments. Stone, pilasters, pediments, capitals. The spectacular and somewhat intimidating historical setting, both formal and masculine, persuaded Thierry and Laurent Gardinier to entrust a new interpretation of this rich heritage to interior architect Yann Montfort.
The goal? To soften the edges, introduce new conviviality, and unfold a scenario of rediscovered femininity through curves in a space once dominated by radical lines. The majestic staircase now serves as a magnificent link between the mineral Trianon room, which offers the intimacy of three alcoves (including one for eight people overlooking a real garden in the inner courtyard), and the Lamennais room, historically the main dining room, iconic for its oak paneling embracing around forty seats.
In this sumptuous setting, a long, sensual banquette now runs along the walls. Prioritizing French artisans, Yann Montfort first enlisted artist Solène Eloy to create églomisé glass pieces and a gilded copper leaf fresco, subtly enhancing the woodwork and poetically reinterpreting the Viandier, the first French cookbook written by Guillaume Tirel, known as Taillevent. The Lison de Caunes Workshops crafted straw marquetry screens that contrast the building’s stately architecture with the inviting, ultra-contemporary alcoves in the first dining room. Lighting, noble materials, warm colors, service furniture that facilitates work and movement – everything has been thoughtfully designed and custom-made to create a uniquely convivial and chic Parisian atmosphere.
