“Le Mystère des Faluns” – Les Perrières, Doué-la-Fontaine, Pays de la Loire, France

The troglodyte site of Perrières in Doué-la-Fontaine offers “The Mystery of the faluns”. He invites us to dive into a prehistoric sea, whose remains were then shaped by the man, who extracted from the basement, stone and sand falun.

Jellyfish more real than life. It has been 10 million years since such specimens appeared on the site. At the time, these galleries housed an underwater world, whose traces are still trapped in this sandy rock, the falun. A story told by projections and plays of light.

These cellars as they exist today were dug by the man, in the 18th and 19th century, to exploit the stone and build the houses. Abandoned, the town has reopened in recent years to tourists, but did not meet the success. With the help of European funds, and by investing 1 million 700 000 euros in accessibility and scenography, she was able to restore the soul of places.
