The city walls of Lucca with 96 hectares totally pedestrian green represent a unique reality in the European landscape architecture and urbanism. Made between 1513 and 1650 are one of the greatest examples of Italian Renaissance fortification. Lost its military function are now a large public park popular with citizens and travelers that surrounds and bordering the historic center with an elevated tree-lined promenade of 4.2 kilometers to go for a walk, a run or a bike.
