Lac d’Allos, Allos, Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, France

In the heart of the Mercantour National Park , the site of Lake Allos, the largest natural lake in Europe (2228m), is the jewel of the town.
Glacier child of the quaternary era, resulting from the melting of snow and springs, Lake Allos with an area of 54ha, reaches the depth of 48m. Middle of extreme fragility, it is home to brown trout and Arctic charr.

Access to Lake Allos begins with a small mountain road open from May 23 to mid-October to the Laus car park. From there, it is 45 minutes walk.

The walk to the lake, although easily accessible, is still a walk in the mountains, do not forget to plan your walking shoes, water, a hat …

It is also possible to access the lake. ‘Allos – provide 6 hours of average walk round trip (indicative time) from Val d’Allos – the village by taking the GR 56B (red and white markings).
