La Motte, Vesoul, Franche-Comte, France

Notre-Dame-de-la-Motte is a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary , erected at the top of the hill of La Motte in the center of Vesoul , in Haute-Saone , in the Franche-Comté region . It is a historical monument of the city which is part of the heritage of Vesoul . This oratory is often associated with a miracle.

The chapel is built on the site of the ancient city Castrum Vesulium . Its construction was the result of a long preparation, bringing together thousands of people during congresses and processions. Archeologically, it allowed, among other things, the discovery of ancient objects, such as a very old piece of cannon that strongly garnishes the medieval history of Vesoul. This cannon, which also rests at the Georges-Garret museum , was part of the old castle.

In Vesoul, the chapel is the complete symbol of the protection of the mother of Jesus. This belief is due to the fact that the inhabitants were spared by the cholera epidemic in 1854. Notre-Dame-de-la-Motte is the most famous monument of Vesoul, and historically the one that was most cited in books as well as the most studied and described in detail.
