Kuznetsk Fortress Historical Architechtural Museum, Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo Oblast, Russia 

Kuznetsk fortress – a monument of history, military engineering and architecture of federal significance – is located in Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo region.

The construction of the Kuznetsk fortress was started in 1800 and completed in 1820. It was part of the fortification system, the main purpose of which was to contain the aggressive plans of the Chin Chine against South Siberia.

But already in 1846 the Kuznetsk fortress was removed from the balance of the Military Ministry. At the fortress, a prison for criminals was organized . The prison operated on the fortress until 1919, when all the prison buildings were burned during the Civil War.

In 1998, large-scale compensation construction was carried out at the Kuznetsk fortress. At present, more than a dozen architectural and military- fortification objects of different degree of preservation are part of the museum-protected Kuznetsk fortress .
