Kurgan Reginal Arts Museum, Kurgan, Kurganskaya oblast, Russia 

The Kurgan regional museum of arts was built as an individual project of Kurgan architect, a member of the Artists Union and of the Architects Union U.I.Veshchikov in 1981.

The museum has 10 exhibition halls, a lecture hall which is equipped with the facilities for exposition and storing the funds.

On the 14th of August, 1982 the museum solemnly received the first visitors. Nowadays the museum is the only major regional center of collecting, studying and propagating the pictorial culture of TransUrals.

The museum constantly improves the forms of work with visitors embracing different age groups. There are the following programmes – “Museum and Children”, “Ladies and Gentlemen” (for older generation), “The museum – To the Rural Visitors”.

Paintings and water – colours by Kurgan artists make up the nucleus of the collection. There are about 10 personal collections formed on the basis of the funds of the museum. Among them there are collections of the People`s Artist of the USSR V.N.Goryaev, the founder of professional arts in TransUrals, an honoured artist of Adzhar Autonomous SSR V.F.Ilyushin, the collections of the artists from the Kurgan region including A.M.Petukhov, an honoured artist of Russia G.A.Travnikov, collections of icons, metal plastics and decorative applied arts.

Basing on the funds the museum holds annual exhibitions which represent the development of arts in the 20th century in TransUrals, Russia, in near and far foreign countries.
