Kuniga Coast, Oki Island, Japan
The Oki Islands were formed several hundred million years ago. They are now designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark site because of their unique ecosystem and culture carried on since ancient times.
The Kuniga Coast is one of Oki’s most well known scenic areas. The majestic sight of sea cliffs and caves spanning about 7km from east to west is truly amazing.
Of particular note is Matengai Cliff, a huge sea cliff rising 257 meters above the ocean, making it Japan’s tallest. Viewing the ocean down below from atop this cliff provides a grand scale that will make you feel tiny in comparison.
