
Kristen Michal has been serving as the Prime Minister of Estonia since 23 July 2024. Born on 12 July 1975 in Tallinn, he is in a common-law marriage and is the father of three sons. Michal has been an active member of the Estonian Reform Party since 1996, contributing significantly to its growth and success.
Michal’s political career began with advisory roles between 1996 and 2002, during which he advised various leaders within the Reform Party. In 2002, he served as an advisor to then-Prime Minister Siim Kallas. His leadership journey continued when he became the Elder of the Kesklinn district in Tallinn from 2002 to 2003. From 2003 to 2011, he held the influential position of Secretary General of the Reform Party, managing its operations and strategic direction.
Michal has also been a long-standing member of the Riigikogu, Estonia’s parliament. His tenure includes serving in the 10th and 11th Riigikogu from 2004 to 2007, the 12th Riigikogu from 2012 to 2015, and the 13th and 14th Riigikogu from 2016 to 2021. His ministerial roles have included serving as Minister of Justice from 2011 to 2012, Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure from 2015 to 2016, and Minister of Climate from 2023 to 2024. Each of these roles has allowed him to shape Estonia’s policies across key areas, including legal reforms, economic development, and climate initiatives.
