HM King Frederik X

His Majesty The King Frederik X, born Frederik André Henrik Christian on May 26, 1968, is the current King of Denmark. He ascended to the throne on January 14, 2024, following the abdication of his mother, Queen Margrethe II, who was the longest-serving European monarch at the time. Frederik is the elder son of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik. He was educated at Krebs’ School, Øregård Gymnasium, Aarhus University, and also spent a year at Harvard University. Known for his initial reputation as a “party prince,” Frederik’s image evolved significantly over the years due to his deep commitment to climate change issues and his extensive military service in the Danish Armed Forces.

Frederik met Australian marketing consultant Mary Donaldson during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, and they married in 2004. The couple has four children: Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine. Frederik’s dedication to both his royal duties and personal interests, such as climate advocacy, has earned him respect both within Denmark and internationally. His leadership is anticipated to continue modernizing the Danish monarchy, following in his mother’s progressive footsteps
