Khalifa Square, Umm Durman, Sudan 

The name of the square is Al Khalifa Square. Al Khalifa in Arabic is the governor of an Islamic country. This Khalifa’s name was Al Kahalifa Abd Allah Al Ta’ayshi and he was the next governor after Al Mahdi.

Al Mahdi was the famous Mahdi of Sudan, a religious and political leader of Sudan in the second half of XIX century who led the national uprising against the British and Egyptians.

The square is used for the Islamic and national celebrations specially the birthday of Prophet Mohamed. This celebration takes twelve days during which there are many Islamic festivals.
