Kartepe District was established in March 2008 with the law numbered 5747; Köseköy, Uzunçiftilik, Uzuntarla, Eşme, Acısu, Maşukiye in the world; Büyük Derbent, Arslanbey, Sarımeşe and Suadiye were established with the first stage municipalities and the construction of public institutions and organizations was completed in a short time.
The town of Kartepe remains between the Izmit Samanlı Mountains and the Kocaeli Plateau. The geography of Kartepe district has been used as a very important gateway between Asia and Europe over history, trade routes, Silk road, military and pilgrim roads throughout history.
