Joaquina Beach, Florianópolis, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil

Joaquina is an ocean beach in the Brazilian city of Florianopolis, east of Santa Catarina Island, south of Brazil. The point sought by surfers, has been home to some world championship of surfing.

The name of the beach is new, first seen in maps from 1975. Until then, she was called Campeche beach. Praia da Joaquina belongs to the District of Lagoa da Conceição and is only 15 km from downtown Florianopolis in the northeast direction. It has 3,000 meters long and its width varies from 80 to 70 meters. Praia da Joaquina, or Joaca, was discovered by surfers, the first Brazilian and then the foreigners from the 1970s.

Joaquina is one of the most sought after by surfers and sportsmen in general, everyday have football matches in the sand, footvolley, corridors, etc.. Besides having good infrastructure for swimmers, with toilets, showers, police, rescue, night lighting, etc..

Joaquina Beach is also known for creative “surfing on the dunes or sandboarding, a variation of traditional surf and what happens on the big and beautiful dunes bordering the beach. The “Joaquina”, as is typically known, begins at the end of the beach of Campeche and its termination happens at Ponta do Retiro.
