Jan Elizabeth Adams AO PSM is an Australian public servant and diplomat with a distinguished career in international relations. She currently serves as the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), a role she assumed in July 2022. Prior to this, she served as Australia’s Ambassador to Japan from 2020 to 2022, where she was instrumental in fostering stronger bilateral ties between Australia and Japan.

Adams has a long-standing career in government, specializing in trade policy, climate change, and international relations. She has also held key positions such as the Australian Ambassador to China and Deputy Secretary of DFAT. Her leadership in global trade negotiations and her contribution to shaping Australia’s foreign policy have earned her several accolades, including being made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) and receiving the Public Service Medal (PSM).
