Jabal Bil Ays, North Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates

Take a ride up Jabal Bil Ays–at 1,934 m (6,316 ft) above sea level, the country’s tallest mountain. On the way up, the winding road takes you between foothills and across rugged, rocky terrain boasting lots of interesting geological features. Pull over at one of the natural viewing areas and admire the impressive vistas that each twist and turn in the road provides. Rumor has it that the mountain will soon be getting the five-star treatment, with a hotel, cable car, golf course, and ski slope all planned, following the opening of the mountain road in 2015. Until then, it stands as an impressive natural landmark, with no facilities except for the road.
