Izmailovo kremlin, Moscow, Russia

The cultural complex “Kremlin in Izmailovo” was founded by Alexander Fedorovich Ushakov and Marina Viktorovna Alekseeva in 2003. The idea of creating a center of Russian culture came to Alexander Fyodorovich literally in a dream when he, the descendant of the famous icon painter Simon Ushakov, saw the present Kremlin with its towers, a noisy square and a pond surrounded by children. Day after day, the details of the Kremlin were becoming clearer, and it was time to present the architectural project to the mayor.

What was on the shore of the Silver-Grape pond earlier? During the reign of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich in Izmailovo was the residence of the Romanovs. And on the place where the Izmailovo Kremlin now rises, – exemplary farming economy, linen manufactory, glass blowing and brickworks. Near these neighborhoods the young Peter the Great found his boat, which marked the beginning of the history of the Russian fleet. This is reminiscent of the plots of façade tiles made in the own pottery workshop of the Kremlin in Izmailovo complex.

Izmailovo played a big role in the development of the country’s history and culture. In 1974, an exhibition of contemporary avant-garde artists was held here, an event that marked the beginning of the emergence of modern art. A little later, the famous “Vernisazh in Izmailovo” was formed here, where paintings, antiques, books, and then traditional Russian crafts were put up for sale.

The Kremlin is supposed to rise on a hill. And Izmaylovskiy Kremlin is also built on a hill: for the 1980 Olympics, it was planned to build one of the buildings of the hotel complex, but the construction was frozen, and the pit was filled up. She wanted to give the sheep to the construction of the rehearsal base of the ensemble “Beryozka”, but this project was not realized either. And so, in 1998, Alexander Fedorovich presented the city authorities with a wooden tower in the Russian style, and soon a project was signed for the construction of a whole complex – the wooden Kremlin.
