The Irkutsk Historical and Memorial Museum of the Decembrists consists of two memorial estates located on the neighboring streets: the Trubetskoy House-Museum and the Volkonskiy House-Museum in the historical center of the city. The museum conducts its annals on December 29, 1970, although the collection of the museum began to form in 1925. For 30 years, the Museum of the Decembrists was the department of the Irkutsk Regional Museum of Local History. In 2000 the museum received the status of an independent state cultural institution “Irkutsk Regional Historical and Memorial Museum of the Decembrists”.

The house and manor SG. Volkonsky is a unique phenomenon in the culture of Irkutsk. Traditions and life of the princely family of Volkonskie are represented as accurately as possible by the historical interiors of the house, in which the memorial items of the families of the Volkonskys and Ivashevs, the Decembrists NM are exhibited. Muraveva, M.K. Kiichelbecker, I.I. Pushchina, D.I. Zavalishin, P.G. Kakhovsky, the wives of the Decembrists N.D. Fonvizina, M.K. Yushnevskaya. The permanent exposition tells about the life of the Decembrists on a settlement in Eastern Siberia (1845-1856). The pride of the museum collection is the musical instruments of the Volkonsky family – the pyramidal pianoforte of the late 18th century, the grand piano “Lichtenhal” in 1831 and the operating music box made in Switzerland in the middle of the 19th century. The exposition of the House Museum of the Princes of Trubetskoy is called upon to show through the Siberian exile the Decembrist S.P. Trubetskoi and his family the fate of other Decembrists. The exposition presents the authentic things of the Trubetskoy family: two chairs, a porcelain vase, a bronze table, a “Baikal landscape” and a portrait of A.P. Trubetskoy’s brush, the daughter of the Decembrist Alexandra Trubetskoy, a dressing-case – a box with household, toiletry and needlework accessories. Trubetskoy, icon-cloth “The Virgin and Child”, air-cover, wallet, press-boulevard, box for letters. Visitors can see the memorial books of the Decembrists S.P.
