Since Hope St opened its doors in 2003, Liverpool has seen the arrival of many boutique hotels, small and large, but this remains one of the best. Chic Scandi-style rooms, excellent food, superb service and stunning views from the upper floors combine with a choice location to make it an excellent city bolthole. The airy reception establishes the overall style, which is pared-back and Scandi-influenced. The Venetian-style building, formerly a furniture shop, booksellers and coach maker for Rolls Royce, called The London Carriage Works (the restaurant is named after it), has been cleverly remoulded into a hotel – though there is a warren-like feel to the staircases and lift lobby. The overall ambience oozes style, calm and sophistication. Liverpool FC players use the hotel when in town, as does adopted Liverpudlian, Yoko Ono.
