Holme Moss Summit inspires wanderers with its wild moorland beauty and dramatic Peak District panoramas. Holme Moss stands at 524 m on the A6024 between Holmfirth and Longdendale, straddling the Peak District boundary, crowned by a prominent transmitting mast and a lively car park at the road summit. The area is renowned both as a challenging climb—nicknamed “Le Col de Moss” and featured in the Tour de France—and as a tranquil viewing point where cyclists and photographers relish the sense of achievement and expansive vistas. Since the moorland is freely open, there are no formal opening or closing times; come whenever you like. However, the car park by the transmitter is informal and typically useable during daylight hours. Access is safest during clear weather and daylight, especially in winter when snow may block the road.
