Hogarth Falls, Strahan, Tasmania, Australia
Hogarth Falls was our waterfalling excuse to visit the quaint coastal township of Strahan. The waterfall itself was probably around 5-10m tall though there were further tiers downstream of the viewing area that really didn’t lend themselves well to photographs. In any case, Julie and I enjoyed a pretty relaxing stroll through Strahan’s People’s Park to reach the falls on a 2.5km return track that we managed to do in 45 minutes. Moreover, we were surprised at how popular this modestly-sized falls was considering how quiet and seemingly out-of-the-way Strahan was.
The gravel walk was very straightforward and easy to follow with interpretive signs throughout to keep us informed and educated about the area. The track was primarily flanked by temperate rainforest featuring some impressive gum trees as well as ferns, which suggested that this was a pretty high rainfall area. Once we got to the end of the track, there was a lookout with railings, but we got our best views (as shown at the top of this page) after scrambling onto a rocky area just above the waterfall’s lowest tiers. Space was limited here as there were probably nearly a dozen people sharing this one spot.
