Hill Top View Point
https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/hill-top As soon as you step inside Hill Top, you are surrounded by Beatrix Potter’s own belongings and items she carefully chose to leave here, bringing her personality to life in each room, cupboard and with each piece of furniture.
You’ll spot many familiar scenes from her much loved tales as you make your way around; smaller visitors will enjoy the challenge of matching up illustrations from The Tale of Samuel Whiskers, to real scenes which can still be spotted throughout the house today.
The spirit of Hill Top
As we have all been enjoying getting closer to nature over the last year, we want to invite you to stop and consider the small things on your visit to Hill Top. See how nature seems to be everywhere, even trying to get in through the windows as the rose claws up the front of the house and taps on the glass.
” The flowers love the house, they try to come in! House leek grows on the window sills and ledges; wisteria climbs the wall, clematis chokes the spout casings ? But nothing more sweet than the old pink cabbage rose that peeps in at the small paned windows.”
– Beatrix Potter
Beatrix Potter saw the beauty and detail in everything ? from the way the snowdrops popped up everywhere in the garden to the way the sunlight bounced off the old panes of glass in the upstairs windows.
