Art Museum in Lodz took residence raised approx. 1875 years for the Herbst family.
In the postwar years the buildings were used by various public institutions. The result was the devastation of improper maintenance of all buildings. They required overhaul and adaptation to the exhibition purposes. 1990 – the museum was open to visitors.

1990 – The International Federation of the European Societies Restoration of Cultural
and Natural Museum honored the Europa Nostra medal, which was awarded for “Herbst dazzling renovation of residences and preserve the original beauty of the villa.” It was the first medal given object in Poland.

2011-2013 – modernization of residence. Revitalization has been subjected to a whole complex of buildings with a total capacity of 19 734 m3 and a usable area of approximately 3 442 m2 and the garden that surrounds the residence
of approx. 10 000 m2. The value of the project amounted to 19.7 million, of which nearly 10 million are EU funds. The remaining part was financed from the budget of the regional government of Lodz.

The program combined the renovation and modernization of the infrastructure of the conservation work, reconstructive
and aranżacyjnymi. The intention of the project was to give the shape of the historical palace interiors exhibition and acquisition of additional exhibition space. These actions occurred conditions for the proper functioning and further development of the museum. 2012 – opening of the Gallery of Ancient Art. For exhibition spaces they have been adapted in the carriage house building. Following a major refurbishment combined with the modernization of the historic building built modern exhibition rooms meet modern standards for the presentation of works of art. Creation Gallery in the Palace of Herbst’s possible to prepare a permanent exhibition of paintings from the museum’s own collection.

2013 – reopening Herbst Palace. Research results and new pit iconographic sources allowed to give the interior a different shape. The palace salons have grown closer to the original decor from the days when the family lived here Herbst. The acquired photographs it was possible to recreate many parts and pieces of equipment that were useful salons individual character.

2013 – implementation of a pioneering project Whispers. Herbst Palace Museum is the first museum in Poland, which created a visually impaired people with the opportunity to independently explore the exhibition of historic interiors Herbst Palace, an exhibition of paintings at the Art Gallery of Old and garden. The project was developed by the Museum staff Herbst Palace.

2013 – Palace Museum Herbst was the winner of the XXXIV edition of the Museum Event of the Year 2013. The jury awarded Sibyl innovative system Whispers that blind and partially sighted enables independent tour of the museum.
Sybilla Award is the most important award in the Polish museums, awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The competition is resolved for more than 30 years.

2015 – Herbst Palace won the grand prize and first place in the category interior underwent reconstruction of the historical XXV edition of the Interior of the Year 2013-2014. The jury received the greatest recognition “integrity and concern for the restoration of the original mansion interiors, details, materials
and colors, Someone minimized the need for creation, which in combination with the present, the museum function was not obvious.”

2015 – Polish President Bronisław Komorowski said nineteenth-century building Lodz title the Monument of History. Among the objects covered by Title Lodz History Monument was the residence of Matilda and Edwarda Herbstów, which now houses the Palace Museum Herbst.
