Henriette Reker Born December 9, 1956, in Cologne, Germany. Henriette Reker studied law at the University of Cologne and later worked as a lawyer. She has held various administrative positions in local governments across North Rhine-Westphalia. Before becoming Mayor, she served as the Commissioner for Integration in Cologne and later as Deputy Mayor responsible for social affairs, health, and integration.

Henriette Reker’s leadership as Mayor has been characterized by her dedication to improving the quality of life in Cologne and addressing key social issues. Her background in law and public administration, along with her independent political stance, have earned her respect and support across various segments of the city’s population.

Mayoral Tenure

Henriette Reker was elected Mayor of Cologne in October 2015 as an independent candidate, supported by several political parties including the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Free Democratic Party (FDP), and the Greens. Her tenure has focused on issues such as urban development, housing, transportation, and integration. She has also been an advocate for women’s rights and social equality. During her campaign in 2015, Reker survived a stabbing attack, which brought international attention and highlighted her commitment to public service despite the challenges.
