
Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC was sworn in as Australia’s 28th Governor-General on July 1, 2024. She brings a wealth of experience from her distinguished career in law, business, and social advocacy. A lawyer by training, Mostyn has held senior positions across numerous sectors, including telecommunications, insurance, and sustainability. She has served on the boards of prominent companies such as Mirvac and Virgin Australia and chaired multiple not-for-profit organizations, including Beyond Blue and the Foundation for Young Australians.
Known for her commitment to gender equality, climate action, and social justice, Mostyn has been instrumental in advancing women in sport, co-founding the Minerva Network to support female athletes and playing a pivotal role in the creation of the AFL Women’s league. She has received numerous accolades for her work, including being named a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2024. Ms. Mostyn lives with her husband, Simeon Beckett SC, and is a passionate advocate for the arts and reconciliation

As of 2024, the Governor-General of Australia is David Hurley, who has held the position since July 1, 2019. Prior to becoming Governor-General, Hurley had a distinguished career in the Australian Defence Force, serving as Chief of the Defence Force from 2011 to 2014 and as Governor of New South Wales from 2014 to 2019.
