History of the house – History of economic development

The stately building was built at the end of the 19th century. century as a Royal Württemberg State Trade Museum in a construction period of six years and opened with an “Exhibition for Electrical Engineering and Arts and Crafts”. The inauguration took place in the presence of the regent King Wilhelm II of Württemberg on the 6th. June 1896.

In the magnificent museum building, exemplary industrial products from home and abroad were presented as a suggestion for the domestic economy. It was collected what seemed to be of use to trade, technical progress and sales and promoted flavor formation: machines, tools, new inventions, metal goods, weaving patterns, treasures of world exhibitions, papers, porcelain, plaster models. A public library housed valuable art books and technical literature. As the “Landesgewerbemuseum” the institution soon became known far beyond the borders of Württemberg.
