Gull Island in the Ottawa River is a small rocky island located just across from Parliament Hill in downtown Ottawa. It is known for being a resting and nesting spot for seagulls, which is how it got its informal name.
Historically, the island was once called Twin Pine Island due to two large pine trees that stood there. Over time, one tree disappeared and it became known as Lone Pine Island before eventually becoming mostly barren and rocky. Today, the island remains uninhabited and is primarily a natural habitat for birds. It is not open to the public.
