Grevena Bridge and Gorge, Grevena, Greece

The Kanavi valley, between the mountains of Spileo & Lykotrypa, ends in a big gorge, called Portitsa. In front of the oblong mouth of the gorge is the stone bridge of Portitsa, the only land passage between the Spileo and the Monachiti.

The river passes under the arch of the bridge is the Venetikos, a tributary of Aliakmonas river, who is the longest river ( 297 km) in Greece. The construction of the bridge was on 1743 and according to sources it was built with offers from the Monastery of the Spileo. It’s a double-arched bridge with a total length of 34 m,width of 2.70 m and the total height reaches 7.80 m.
