Great Budworth Village

Voted one of Englands most beautiful villages and the most picturesque village in Cheshire. Great Budworth is a village and civil parish in Cheshire, England, four miles north of Northwich off the A559 road, east of Comberbach, northwest of Higher Marston and southeast of Budworth Heath. Until 1948, Great Budworth was part of the Arley Hall estate. At the 2011 census, the population was 339.

Great Budworth is a charming, picturesque village located in Cheshire, England, often celebrated as one of the region’s most beautiful settlements. Nestled amid rolling countryside just a short distance from Northwich, it features a timeless collection of historic half-timbered cottages, many with black-and-white facades, lining narrow, cobbled streets. The village has retained much of its traditional character thanks to careful preservation efforts, particularly during the 19th century when the local landowner sought to enhance its idyllic appeal.

At the heart of Great Budworth stands the impressive 14th-century St Mary and All Saints Church, built from warm sandstone and serving as a striking focal point surrounded by ancient yew trees and flower-filled planters. The architecture blends medieval elements with later Victorian restorations, creating a harmonious scene that feels unchanged for centuries. Quaint lanes wind around the church, offering glimpses of well-maintained gardens, clipped topiary, and cozy homes that evoke a sense of stepping back in time.

Frequently used as a filming location for period dramas and movies due to its unspoiled, storybook-like atmosphere, Great Budworth exudes a peaceful, rural tranquility. With a small population and a layout largely unchanged since its days as part of a grand estate, the village invites visitors to wander its quiet paths, enjoy the scenic views, and appreciate a quintessential example of English heritage preserved in a serene countryside setting.
