Grand Serment Royal et de Saint-Georges des Arbalétriers de Bruxelles

Heir to the traditions of the Guilds of Crossbowmen, established in 1381, our Oath has a hundred members who are happy to share their passion for traditional crossbow shooting, to show their House or to expose their history, that of the oaths of crossbowmen, defenders of the city of Brussels.

From this passion was born a museum patiently built up by successive generations of Companions who ensure the conservation and presentation of old crossbows and more than 1600 objects relating to the different forms of shooting, the prizes offered during tournaments, medals and others. distinctions received or won by our champions. It’s a living museum since it’s where crossbowmen carry on the traditions of their predecessors, starting with crossbow shooting itself.

Thus, the shooters have at their disposal twelve shooting ranges intended for their weekly training (Thursday evening) or for friendly games. Many also take part in meetings with other societies or in regional, national or even international championships.

Each year, the Museum welcomes between three and five thousand visitors. It is open to the public on Tuesday afternoons and during Brussels museum events such as the Nocturnes des Musées.

Group, company or school visits can be organized on request on other days (see “Organization of events”).
Anxious to maintain our tradition of welcome and transmission, it is also a pleasure for the companions to pick up a crossbow and introduce our visitors to shooting on Thursday evening, who can then try their hand at handling a weapon from another century. If you are interested, you can register in the “Shooting” area of this site (see “The Great Oath”).
