Grand Manan Museum, Grand Manan, NB, Canada

A handsome village museum is located in the heart of Grand Harbour, halfway down the island from the ferry landing, at 1141 Route 776 across from the Community School. This museum makes a good destination on a foggy day. Its diverse collection of local artifacts provides a quick primer on island history. You can see a display on shipwreck lore and the original kerosene lamp from nearby Gannet Rock lighthouse (1904). There is also a room stuffed with 200-plus taxidermied birds (including the now-extinct passenger pigeon). Visit Canada. Epic Canada Route © Monika Newbound
