History

Construction of the 18-hole championship course began in May 1981. At the same time, the Köhlerhof building was renovated, and the Köhlerstübchen was opened as a temporary clubhouse. Tennis courts were intended to provide variety for non-golfers, and with the construction of the gatekeeper’s and supervisor’s house, as well as the caddy house including a club cleaning area, the creation of the golf course took on visible form.

By the opening of the 18-hole course on June 22, 1982, the golf club already had 250 members. However, a few years later, the dream of golfing on the Ahr threatened to collapse. Increasing rumors and fears of an impending collapse of the club caused unrest for many months. The final ‘end’ followed, and the facility reverted to the city.

On December 31, 1986, the three previous members Olaf Junge, Gerd Rieg, and Dieter Strunk, together with the city administration, signed the last contracts to usher in the new chapter of golfing on the Ahr on the following New Year’s Day 1987: the Golf and Country Club Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler – now as a private club in the legal form of a KG.

Since 2015, the club has been owned by the Reischl family from Cologne.
