Mr. Gil Avérous

Gil Avérous, born on July 12, 1973, in Issoudun, France, is a prominent French politician currently serving as the Minister of Sports, Youth, and Community Life since September 21, 2024. He began his political career in 1995 as a municipal councilor in Les Bordes and later became the mayor of Fontguenand in 2008. In 2014, Avérous was elected mayor of Châteauroux, a position he continues to hold alongside his ministerial duties. Throughout his career, he has been associated with several political parties, including The Republicans, which he left in 2023 to become an independent.

In addition to his roles as mayor and minister, Avérous has held significant positions such as president of Châteauroux Métropole and vice-president of the Indre Departmental Council. His tenure as mayor has been marked by efforts to revitalize Châteauroux, focusing on economic development and urban renewal.
