Gaziantep War Museum, Şahinbey, Gaziantep, Turkey 

Gaziantep War Museum, one of the most important war museums of Turkey, is located in Şehreküstü district inside the park with 12 rooms and underground tunnels. It tells the epic and tragic story of Gaziantep resistance against to occupation city during the World War I.

The city was occupied after the first World war and resisted about two years against the enemy troops with an epic struggle and it gained its independence finally so the city was given a title by Turkish parliament in 1921 called as “ Gaziantep-that means victory winner” by law. The visitors came across with a field artillery at the entrance and they begin visiting 12 different sections displaying with weapons, gunpowder, primitive defensive tools used in resistance days.

Two years’ resistance of Gaziantep is told in a chronological order with the heros shown their personnel belongings and their pictures. When the visitors go underground tunnels, more sad sceneries welcome them with the pictures taken in the war and the funerals with tears are exhibited not to forget those hard times. Gaziantep war museum is a must to visit to remember how bad the war is and to hold up as an example.
