Serves the northern suburbs and is close to shopping and business districts. Rosebank Station is part of Gautrain’s rapid transit system and lies along the north–south commuter line. It opened on 2 August 2011. The station is underground, with two side platforms and two tracks. Geographically, Rosebank station is situated in the Rosebank suburb of Johannesburg, under Oxford Road between Baker Street and Tyrwhitt Avenue. It’s strategically placed in a busy, mixed‑use area, very close to major shopping and business zones. In terms of rail service, Rosebank is part of the north–south commuter route: from here, trains run northbound to Sandton, Midrand, Centurion, Pretoria, and Hatfield; and southbound they go to Park Station in downtown Johannesburg. The station also connects to Gautrain’s feeder bus network.
Urban development around Rosebank Station is very intentional. The area is being shaped with a transit‑oriented development plan: zoning changes encourage a denser core around the station, with increasing building heights closer to it. According to an economic and social impact report, development in the precinct includes major commercial and office projects, reinforcing the station’s role as a hub in the city. For visitors, Rosebank Station is extremely well placed. From here you can walk to Rosebank Mall and “The Zone @ Rosebank,” making it a convenient starting point for shopping, dining, or exploring art galleries. Nearby attractions include the Keyes Art Mile, Goodman Gallery, and the David Krut Bookstore.
There was a recent service disruption: in early 2025, Gautrain suspended services between Rosebank and Park Station because an illegal borehole drilled above the tunnel caused water and soil seepage. The tunnel was subsequently repaired and full train service between the stations has resumed. On operations, Gautrain generally runs trains every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 20 minutes off-peak. Accessibility is good: the station is designed to be accessible, with elevators/escalators for passengers.
