Gallery of Modern Art
GoMA is the most visited modern art gallery in Scotland. It is a unique place that uses modern art to inspire an exchange of powerful ideas about life and human experiences. Our vision is to be a place where people enrich their lives by engaging with the stories that art can tell and the experiences it can afford, inspiring vibrant conversations about the world we live in today. Our responsibility is to present these stories and experiences by identifying, collecting, creating and showing important new works of art made by artists and communities from Glasgow and beyond.
The gallery is housed in an iconic building located in the heart of Glasgow, which it shares with the city centre library. It plays an important part in the city’s rich heritage which continues today. For over 100 years the building was a centre for business and commercial exchange where information and goods were traded. GoMA continues that philosophy of exchange by being a centre for people to gather, discuss and learn, inspired by the art it collects and shows. GoMA believes in working with every community of the city and has gained international recognition for its social engagement programming. At GoMA you can make art, you can discuss art, you can experience the rich heritage of Glasgow and you can inform the heritage of the future. The Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) is part of Glasgow Life, the charity which runs the city’s cultural and sports services. Its policies and strategies derive from Glasgow Life’s Mission: The Gallery of Modern Art is an art museum in Glasgow. Beautiful neoclassical building was built in 1778. The mosaic on the facade, tower and dome are magnificent. It now houses a museum of modern art.
