Galicia Jewish Museum

This contemporary museum houses exhibits honoring Holocaust victims & celebrating Jewish culture. The Galicia Jewish Museum is a significant cultural institution in Kraków, dedicated to preserving and promoting Jewish heritage in the Galicia region of Poland. The museum was established in 2004 and is housed in a former industrial building in the Kazimierz district, once the center of Jewish life in Kraków. Its exhibitions focus on the history of Jews in Poland, particularly during the Holocaust, as well as the rich cultural contributions of Jewish communities in the region. The museum showcases contemporary art, historical artifacts, and interactive displays that bring to light the vibrant Jewish culture that once flourished in Galicia before World War II.

One of the key exhibitions at the Galicia Jewish Museum is “Traces of Memory,” a collection of photographs by Chris Schwarz that documents Jewish cemeteries, synagogues, and other remnants of Jewish life in Poland. The museum also runs educational programs, workshops, and events to engage visitors with Jewish culture, history, and the impact of the Holocaust. It serves as both a space of remembrance and a platform for dialogue about Jewish history and its relevance today. Visitors can also explore the surrounding Kazimierz district, which remains a hub of Jewish culture and history in Kraków.
