Frank Kitts Park, Wellington, 6011, New Zealand

The first of the waterfront projects was the Frank Kitts Park development, which doubled the size of the original Marine Park.

The original park was created in 1974 on land reclaimed in 1969 for port use and a proposed motorway. It was renamed Frank Kitts Park in 1979, after Wellington’s longest serving mayor.

The park and promenade redesign was influenced by the annual street race that ran through the area at the time.
