Four Islands Beach, Bombinhas, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil

It is known by the older residents as Praia de Fora, due to its location and characteristic of open sea. The name Quatro Ilhas is due to the four islands seen from the beach. One of them, the Macuco Island, near the mainland. The other three, Welsh Island, Deserta and Arvoredo, are the ones that make up the Arvoredo Marine Biological Reserve. The beach is also known for the great cross installed in its sands.

The villagers tell that two fishermen, after having found the cross by the sea, were so impressed that they decided to put it in the same place where they found it. According to the residents and fishermen of that region, after this event they made a throw (fishing) of mullets never seen, such an abundance of fish. Since then, every year, on May 3, Some fishermen adorn the cross with flowers and make small prayers, so that there is always the same abundance in fishing for mullet.

Over time, the wooden cross deteriorated and was replaced by a concrete cross. The beautiful beach preserved by restinga, has 1km of extension. It is a stronghold of young people who seek their good waves for surfing.
