Forte de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, Fernando de Noronha, State of Pernambuco, Brazil

The Fort of Our Lady of Remedies of Fernando de Noronha located in the Island of Fernando de Noronha, in the archipelago of the same name, in the State of Pernambuco.

Built in a dominant position, at an elevation 45 meters above sea level, on the ruins of the old Dutch position abandoned in 1654, it is the main defense structure of the Bay of Santo Antônio, the most important anchorage of the island.

According to Barretto (1958), it was begun in 1737, under the plan of the military engineer Diogo da Silveira, under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel João Lobo de Lacerda, and was given the form of a polygon starring twelve angles (two treble and ten obtuse ). It was garrisoned by a Captain and thirty-two squares, and harnessed with six pieces of different calibers.
