The Fortaleza de Tapirandú de Morro de São Paulo , currently known as The Fort for residents and visitors, does not refer to the 17th century where it was the scene of numerous battles and conflicts in the defense of the Bay of All Saints. In 1630 the construction began, the fortress was made of stones and whale oil.
The strategic location allowed both the protection of the entire archipelago of Tinharé , where it passed all the production of supply of the capital, and also the defense of invasions of other boats in the false bar of the Bay of All Saints. It can be considered the biggest defensive system of the time of the country.
The Fort and its Prainha de Morro de São Paulo

The works of both the Portico and the New Forte da Ponta and the curtains of the canals were built only in 1728 by the Count of Sabugosa.
Throughout history Fortaleza has undergone numerous destructions and reforms. The destructions came in the various battles with cannonballs artillery weapons, the destruction of storms and the weather itself and the sea . Touched by National Historic Patrimony, the Fort was in ruins, at the mercy of the collapse. In 2010 the restoration works began and have not yet ceased.
