Used by the kings of France from the XII th century, Fontainebleau hunting residence in the heart of a vast forest in the Ile-de-France, was transformed, enlarged and embellished in the XVI th century by François I e r who wanted to make it a “new Rome”. Surrounded by a vast park, the castle, inspired by Italian models, was a meeting place between the art of the Renaissance and the French traditions.
